Basic Bling

This course will introduce you to everything you will need to know as a beginning jeweler.  Students will be familiarized with the tools and techniques of jewelry making and metalsmithing.  We will discuss and perform techniques such as piercing, sawing, soldering, surface embellishment with hammers.  Students will create designs based on the techniques they have learned and discuss creating a small collection.

A class for an adult and child who want to spend time together while making a beautiful metal piece to take home. Children must be at least 7 years old to attend art jewelry classes. Classes are $60 per pair ($30 for additional people), and they run up to 1.5 hours. All tools and materials are included in the cost of the workshop.

In Compliments, you and your child will make a necklace complimenting each other. Learn stamping and texturing during the one to one and a half hour class.

The LBIF is proud to announce that their 2018 Annual Fine Arts Festival will be curated by The MakeShift Union!  This annual weekend-long event at LBIF features a selection of fine artists from local areas and beyond, live music, food vendors, and the 3rd-year crowd favorite - Sundaes in Ceramics.  

MAKESHIFT UNION MISSION STATEMENT: To curate and enhance a beloved LBI tradition by creating new life into the term Fine Art and to engineer a shopping experience that aims to delight all of the creative senses.  Our experience with a repertoire of highly-talented artisans coupled with LBIF's art-forward mission is a marriage sure to promise an enjoyable dynamic set over two days on a gorgeous bay-front landscape.

The LBIF is proud to announce that their 2018 Annual Fine Arts Festival will be curated by The MakeShift Union!  This annual weekend-long event at LBIF features a selection of fine artists from local areas and beyond, live music, food vendors, and the 3rd-year crowd favorite - Sundaes in Ceramics.

Summer All Level Jewelry - 5 Week Class

This class is for beginners to advanced students and is intended to introduce the basic materials and processes of jewelry making.  This class is for a maximum of 6 students. Advanced students are welcome to use time for individual projects while overseen by instructor.  Learn the technical and problem solving skills necessary to create your own jewelry designs from drawings to finished pieces.

Beginners will move through a series of seven core projects: Piercing by Sawing, Texturing, Bezel Setting, Soldering, Appliqué Jewelry, Cold Connection, and Hollow Forms. Findings will be covered throughout the series. These projects will take 2-3 nine week sessions to complete. Upon completion, a curriculum will be created specific to your design style and technical direction.

Intermediate students entering the class will have a curriculum created specific to their needs.

New! Can't commit to the 5 week session due to obligations? Enroll only for the dates you would like to attend. Select class option- full session or individual class and add to cart. Enter each date of class you plan on attending on the registration form in the designated box. You must complete dates at time of registration. You may not register for multiple class days and times.  If you have selected the Tuesday class please only select Tuesday dates. You must purchase a minimum of 5 individual classes.  Individual classes are $50 each. PLEASE be advised that you will be notified prior to the start of class which dates have been accepted. Priority enrollment is given to those who have enrolled in more classes. 

Each class session does have a make up class following the last class. Those who purchase individual dates are not entitled to the make up. The make up class is only for those enrolled in a full session.  No make up will be provided for individual class packages.

Demo: Stone Setting: Tubes with Prongs for Dainty Rings.  I will begin the demonstration at 1:30.  This will be ongoing and take 3-4 meet ups.  Techniques will include making rings, making settings from tubes with prongs, fitting, finishing and stone setting.  Questions and Answers to follow.  Lite snacks and beverages.  If you have made any pieces using this technique, please bring to share with others in the group.  No worries if not.

Stone Setting: Tubes with Prongs for Dainty Rings

Demo: Stone Setting: Tubes with Prongs for Dainty Rings.  I will begin the demonstration at 1:30.  This will be ongoing and take 3-4 meet ups.  Techniques will include making rings, making settings from tubes with prongs, fitting, finishing and stone setting.  Questions and Answers to follow.  Lite snacks and beverages.  If you have made any pieces using this technique, please bring to share with others in the group.  No worries if not.

In this DIY workshop, create a textured sterling silver band ring. Learn texturing from hammers, soldering, clean up and finishing. All tools and materials are included in the cost of the workshop, and you get to bring home the bling! Materials subject to change.
